Two things that come to my mind when I hear a Pastor or a Christian advocating for Polygamy.

Updated: Jun 14

When you hear a Pastor promoting or advocating for Polygamy, there are a few things that must immediately come to your mind;

1. Some groups may accept or practice polygamy based on their interpretations of the scripture.

2. Research the person very well and you may see that, *he has developed a new taste to get an additional wife or maybe he is having a "side chick"* and he wants to cover it up with the Bible due to his misinterpretation of the Bible.

We should be remembered that God in most cases doesn't enforce His will, mind, commandments, principles, etc on humanity except in a few cases when He acts when He deems it necessary mainly because God has given humanity the ability to decide or make a choice of all the alternatives available BUT each and everyone would be responsible to his choice on earth and at a point when He would sit in his throne of Judgement.

The Basis of Christian Marriage or the Foundation of Marriage both in the Old and New Testament is uniquely based on these two Bible passages.

1. Genesis 2:24 is often cited as a biblical passage emphasizing the unity of marriage, where a man leaves his parents and cleaves to his wife. This verse is generally interpreted as promoting monogamy, as it highlights the union between one man and one woman. The emphasis here is still on monogamy.

2. Matthew 19:4-6 (NIV):

"He answered, 'Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator "made them male and female," and said, "For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh"? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.'" The emphasis here is also on monogamy as he quoted from point 1 above in the Old Testament.

This passage emphasizes the idea that God's original plan for marriage involved one man and one woman becoming "one flesh." It underscores the unity and exclusivity of the marital relationship.

Apostle Paul taking into account of free choice that God has given to humanity also advised that;

a. In 1 Corinthians 7:2, he wrote, "But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his wife, and each woman with her husband," which supports the idea of monogamous marriage.

b. 1 Corinthians 7:8-9. He advises, "Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion." This passage suggests that while Paul advocates for remaining unmarried if possible, he acknowledges that marriage is a suitable option for those who cannot exercise self-control. The emphasis here is still on monogamy.

In conclusion, my fellow friends and brethren, life is a matter of choice, and any choice you make you're responsible for its consequences both on earth and before the throne of judgment. Be sensitive to the holy spirit to guide you in your choice to avoid negative consequences thereafter.

The content of the Bible is very big. If you have a dead conscience, with the wrong interpretation of the Bible, you may go ahead and do anything to justify your conscience with the quote in the Bible while in fact, you are being misled by your wrong interpretation to justify your wrong action.
